Vitesse et canicule à Lachine

C’est à la suite d’un chaud Mardi d’été qu’ont débuté les courses de la 8e étape de la série 2016 des Mardis cyclistes de Lachine. Entre BC SuperWeek et le Grand Prix de la Matapédia, plusieurs équipes étaient bien représentées, dont les 8 athlètes de Garneau-Québécor. Sur la ligne de départ, on sentait la fébrilité chez Garneau, on parlait stratégie. Pourtant, celle-ci semblait évidente : défendre le maillot rouge d’Olivier Brisebois, prendre les points de sprint, et espérer passer en tête du classement général.

Après 3 tours de piste, on a bien compris le changement à la stratégie. Les indices ne mentaient pas : les relances étaient terriblement élevées, le peloton étiré sur toute sa longueur, et les plus faibles déjà largués. Les noirs et pastels essayaient le record ce soir. Avec une moyenne près des 50 km/h et un tempo qui ne semblait pas diminuer, le peloton devait subir l’effort imposé par l’escouade sur-optimiste, attirés par la cagnotte de presque 15 000$ remise à celui qui battrait le record, et la FAME qui viendrait avec.

Mais après 30 minutes d’effort, les effectifs devant ont commencé à diminuer, et ils ont bien compris que ce n’était pas aujourd’hui que le record serait battu. On a eu droit a une deuxième moitié de course plus traditionnelle, avec quelques attaques et des sprints intermédiaires bien disputés.

C’est finalement JF Laroche qui remportera le sprint final, solidifiant davantage son avance au classement général. Hendrik Pineda et Félix Côté-Bouvette complèteront le podium.

Pour les Norco, Laurier Balthazard aura disputé le sprint final et croisera l’arrivée, complètement brûlé, en 12e place.

After a hot summer Tuesday, started the 8th stage of the 2016 series of Mardis de Lachine. Between BC Superweek and Matapedia Grand Prix, several teams were well represented, including 8 athletes from Garneau-Quebecor. On the starting line, you could feel the excitement in Garneau, we talked strategy. Yet it seemed obvious: to defend the red jersey of Olivier Brisebois, take the sprint points, and expect to take in the overall lead.

After 3 laps, we understand the change in the strategy. The indices were not lying: the raises were terribly high, the peloton stretched along its length, and the slow riders were dropped. The black and pastels were trying the record tonight. With an average speed of nearly 50 km/h and a tempo that did not seem to diminish, the peloton had to undergo the stress imposed by the squad over-optimistic, attracted by the prize pool of almost $ 15,000 awarded to the one who would beat the record , and that would come with FAME.

But after 30 minutes of effort, numbers began to decline, and they understood that it was not today that the record would be beaten. The second half of the race was more traditional, with some good attacks and battles for intermediate sprints.

Finally, JF Laroche won the final sprint, solidifying further its overall lead. Hendrik Pineda and Felix Cote-Bouvette complete the podium.

For Norco, Laurier Balthazard crossed the finish, burned down in 12th place.
