Tempête dans le peloton !

Parmi les courses québécoises, le Grand Prix de Ste-Martine peut se vanter d’avoir toujours eu, chez les coureurs, une popularité grandissante. Ce qui en fait une des nos «classiques printanières». Cette troisième épreuve du circuit provincial a attiré 106 coureurs chez les Seniors 1-2, dont Antoine Duchesne d’Europcar et plusieurs cyclistes d’équipes continentales québécoises.

Vu le vent puissant, le mot d’ordre des favoris : faire exploser le peloton en bordurant tout le monde ! La recette a d’ailleurs très bien fonctionné ! Avec des pointes autour de 54 km/h, une longue ligne de coureur s’étalait sur des centaines de mètres avec plusieurs coureurs pris dans les cassures, luttant pour remonter chaque petit groupe. Sébastien Rousseau, bien positionné, a ainsi pu participer activement aux groupes de chasse, avant de se faire reprendre à 15km de la fin par le peloton, au sein duquel se trouvaient Étienne Samson et Louis-Charles Lacroix. Ils ont ainsi rallié l’arrivée avec le peloton. Le reste de l’équipe a bataillé tant bien que mal jusqu’au fil d’arrivée

Storm in the peloton !

Among the races in the Province of Quebec, the Grand Prix of Ste-Martine is one of those that can boast to have a growing popularity with the racers, year after year. It has truly become a « spring classic ». The race, the third of the season, drew as many as 106 riders in the Senior 1-2 category alone, including Europcar’s Antoine Duschene and several riders racing in continental teams from all over the province.

With the day’s strong winds the strategy among the race leaders was simple : to explode the peloton by throwing off everyone into the gutters! This proved to be quite effective. With speeds reaching up to 54 km/h,  what was left of the peloton was nearly a single file of riders stretching over several hundred meters, with several gaps in between. Many riders were left struggling to bridge these gaps, fighting to catch the next small group. Sébastien Rousseau, well positionned at the front, took an active part in the chase groups, before the peloton caught him back in the last 15 kilometers. Louis-Charles Lacroix and Étienne Samson were able to hang in the peloton until theend of the race, while the other guys fought against all odds to rally the finish line.

In the end, despite the week-end’s setbacks, the Norco/Premier Tech p.b. ChewPod riders are already looking towards the next race for better results!
