GP Charlevoix Étape 4

3 coureurs dans le top 10

Pour la toute dernière étape du Grand Prix de Charlevoix, les coureurs devaient parcourir 126 km dans les très nombreuses côtes de la région. Avec plus d’une dizaine de coureurs se tenant en moins d’une minute au classement, tout était encore possible.

C’est dans cet état d’esprit que les coureurs de l’équipe Norco/Premier Tech p/b Chewpod se sont élancés au départ. Le but était de garder Jean-Simon D’Anjou, David Drouin et Samuel Blanchette en bonne position en vue de l’éprouvante fin d’étape. Pour les autres coureurs, il s’agissait d’assister leurs coéquipiers ou d’anticiper l’emballage final en se glissant dans les échappées.

C’est ainsi que Kevin Archambault, Maxime Le Pluart, Sébastien Rousseau et Laurier Balthazard ont essayé de fuir à de nombreuses reprises, mais sans réel succès. N’échappant au peloton que quelques kilomètres au maximum.

Puis, après plusieurs tentatives, Simon Ouellet a pris le large. Longtemps seul en tête, il a finalement été rejoint par Jean-Michel Lachance, ancien vainqueur de la course. Ils ont longtemps tenu tête au peloton, avant d’être rejoints par Jean-Simon.

Après un gros travail de Simon, Jean-Simon a continué seul en tête. Il a ensuite été rattrapé par Alexis Cartier, éventuel vainqueur de la course, puis lâché à 6 km de l’arrivée. Il a finalement été dépassé par un groupe de poursuivants à moins d’un km de la fin.

Dans ce groupe se trouvait David Drouin, qui obtient la 4e place de l’étape et la 3e du classement général, 2 secondes devant son coéquipier Jean-Simon, 4e au cumulatif. Samuel Blanchette, fort d’une 9e place lors de l’étape, termine également dans le top 10 final.

For the final stage of the Grand Prix Charlevoix, riders had to race 126 km in the many coasts of the region. With over a dozen riders standing in less than a minute in the standings, everything was still possible.

It is in this spirit that the riders from team Norco/Premier Tech p/b Chewpod set off initially. The goal was to keep Jean-Simon D’Anjou, David Drouin and Samuel Blanchette in good position to end the grueling stage. For other riders, it was to assist their teammates or to anticipate the final by slipping into breakaways.

Kevin Archambault, Maxime Le Pluart, Sebastien Rousseau and Laurier Balthazard tried to escape many times, but without success, escaping the peloton a few kilometers at most.

Then, after several attempts, Simon Ouellet took off. Long alone in the lead, he was eventually joined by Jean-Michel Lachance, former winner of the race. They have long stood up to the pack, before being joined by Jean-Simon.

After a great work of Simon, Jean-Simon continued alone in the lead. He was later caught by Alexis Cartier, eventual winner of the race and then dropped to 6 km from the finish. He was eventually overtaken by a chasing group less than one km from the end.

David Drouin was with this group, finishing in 4th place of the stage and third overall, two seconds ahead of teammate Jean-Simon, 4th overall. Samuel Blanchette, with a strong 9th place on the stage, also finished in the final top 10.
